Artist Statement
Susanna Lindsey is a self-taught artist who relocated to Pismo Beach, California, in 2004. With a diverse background she has successfully run several businesses, including a preschool, real estate sales, an underground construction company, and a cosmetology practice.

Susanna's artistic journey began in the 1970s when she took classes in drawing and acrylic painting. Over the years, she explored various mediums, including watercolor, photography, ceramics, and even created abstract jewelry and 3D copper projects. Her transition to abstract drawing marked a significant shift in her style, granting her the freedom to break away from her previous precise work and embrace a more liberated form of expression.

Her art has been featured in prestigious events such as the Annual Beacon Art Shows in 2023 and 2024, the Clark Center in Arroyo Grande, CA, and Brushstrokes in both 2023 and 2024, along with numerous exhibitions at the Morro Bay Art Gallery. In 2023, she also had the honor of serving as a judge for the Annual Congressional Art Competition.

Susanna derives immense joy from her art, the vibrant art community, and the idyllic lifestyle by the beach.
My artistic practice is a dynamic exploration of medium and form, encompassing black ink and felt tip pen drawings, abstract copper jewelry, and 3D projects. With a background in silk and acrylic painting, photography, and ceramics, I have come to appreciate the freedom and spontaneity of abstract drawing, where the absence of a preconceived plan allows for a more intuitive and liberating creative process.
Through my use of bold colors and stark contrasts, particularly in my signature black and white or red and black palette, I aim to create complex yet approachable pieces that invite the viewer to interpret and reflect on their own emotions. The recurring motif of black and white checks, a simple yet comforting pattern, weaves its way throughout my work, serving as a visual thread that ties my diverse artistic endeavors together.
My art is not fixed or static, but rather a reflection of my own inner world, shifting and evolving with each passing day. I hope that my audience will find solace in the emotional resonance of my work, and that it will serve as a mirror to their own feelings and experiences, sparking a sense of connection and understanding.
